Tech Week Prep

Introduction to Theatre Drama 1304
MATCHBOX THEATRE

Preparation and BEFORE  tech week

LIGHTING. The Stage Managers, Director, and members of the Lighting Crew will need to meet to discuss the lighting cues for the show. Intensities need to be set and cues need to be written into the stage managerís prompt book. The lighting operation and cue sheets need to be completed prior to the tech rehearsal to maximize our rehearsal time. The Lighting Crew is responsible for setting up the light booth and backstage blue run lights. If the "lighting looks" are not what is envisioned for the show, we will alter them during the technical rehearsal.

SOUND. The Stage Managers, Director, and members of the Sound Crew will need to meet to set sound volumes and establish the sequence of cues prior to the tech rehearsal. The Stage Manager will need to record the sound cues in the prompt book. The Sound Crew is responsible for working with the Departmentís Sound Coordinator to set up the sound system including necessary headsets.  See me regarding who this person is.

PROPERTIES. The Prop Crew will need to place prop tables back stage for the run of the show. Working with the stage managers, the crew will write down all the props and their preset location for posting backstage. This crew will also work with the scenic crew to coordinate and post cast movement of furniture and props throughout the show. This needs to be done and prepared for distribution by tech rehearsal. Refinements will be made during the tech and dress. The crew will need to make these changes and post corrected lists backstage.

SCENERY. The Scenery Crew will need to construct the theatre space and gather seating for the audience prior to the tech rehearsal. The show design will be completed according to the master plan but certainly prior to the tech rehearsal.

TECHNICAL REHEARSAL. REFERENCE THE PRODUCTION CALENDAR FOR DATE.

The purpose of the technical rehearsal is to combine the production elements with the action. The focus will be on technical cues, timing, scene changes and the visual flow of the show. We will have stops and gos. We may repeat the same movement many times. This is the rehearsal when the technicians learn their parts. Patience is essential.

We will endeavor to conduct the Technical Rehearsal during our regular class meeting.  If it appear we will not be able to do so, we will reschedule this important rehearsal at night.

DRESS REHEARSAL. REFERENCE THE PRODUCTION CALENDAR FOR DATE.

Dress rehearsals begin the process of correcting and refinement. It is an opportunity for the cast to get use to the lighting and backstage order. It is an opportunity to respond to a limited audience, their laughs and energy. It is a chance to use costumes, lights, sound and other production elements as a collaborative effort toward opening night.
