LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken

Due: 12/13 at 8:30 am

OVERVIEW:  Our space is the Stieren Theatre. You may submit a model or colored rendering with ground plans and storyboards.  In both presentations, you must solve the challenges of having both the inside and exterior scenes, a dentist’s office, an orchestra, and you must figure out how you will shift the scenery to account for the growth in the plant.  In this project, you need to be realistic about scene changes and plan for off stage storage, if necessary.  I will address all of these refinements in your design work through class discussion.

By now, you should have a good idea about the scene design process. By now, you understand your personal approach to uncovering a design. As we continue to explore the art of scene design, it is important to explore a major segment of the business, MUSICALS.  The library has both the cast recording and a video of the movie.  No matter what, YOU MUST listen to the music.  Whereas the movie is not the stage version of the musical, it does render a stylistic approach that you should consider.
