Television of the eighties

I was a freak in the eighties.  My family did not own a television.  All the TV I saw was at the other kids' houses who had parents willing to enter the real world.  But some shows I'd always make it over to see.   Not necessarily the following shows, maybe, but enough of them that I think the A-Team is a good place to start.

They really knew how to kick ass, at least as much as some great cartoon characters, including

He-Man (no, i don't know the cat's name)                           Thundercats HO!                             Voltron (a hometown favorite)

Optimus Prime of the Transformers and The Smurfs

I think that even as children, we understood the age-old battle between good and evil. Reagan's characterization of the Soviet Union as the "evil empire" fit nicely into our understanding of right and wrong. We could imagine G.I. Joe's battles with Cobra and the forces of darkness.

Even the non-cartoon representations on television showed us these conflicts whether the characters

attempted to find a new home for humanity,

fought against the evil ways of Boss Hogg,

or used a swiss-army knife to battle terrorism.

After all, look at all that the United States stood for:

Love and caring,

family life,

and growing up as an American.

And whatever Max stood for.
